About Dakota
Claytigo is the ceramic practice of Colorado-based artist Dakota Miniter. Their work explores the intersection of thoughtful design, everyday ritual, and the quiet satisfaction in using something made by hand.
Dakota’s path to ceramics began long before they considered themselves a ceramic artist.
After earning a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Northern Colorado, Dakota spent several years working in behavioral health, disability services, and life enrichment. Their work centered around people: understanding individual needs, creating meaningful experiences, building connection, and finding ways to make everyday life a little more engaging.
That experience became an unexpected foundation for their artistic practice.
After graduating during the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, Dakota returned home and worked as a housekeeper while saving for a car and figuring out what came next. They eventually moved into life enrichment, first as an assistant and later as a coordinator, spending four years designing and facilitating activities for older adults in assisted living and memory care. The work required creativity, adaptability, and constant attention to how an experience could make someone feel connected, capable, or simply a little more present.
Eventually, Dakota returned to studio art education at Arapahoe Community College as they began working toward the next stage of their education. There, ceramics shifted from an area of study into something much more personal.
Clay offered a different kind of engagement. The process demanded patience and attention while leaving room for experimentation. Wheel throwing provided structure; glaze exploration provided curiosity. Over time, the studio became a place to slow down, solve problems, and make something tangible.
What began as a return to art developed into Claytigo — a dedicated ceramic practice centered primarily on functional ware.
Today, Dakota creates pieces intended to become part of everyday life. Their work emphasizes craftsmanship, thoughtful proportions, glaze development, durability, food safety, simplicity, and visual clarity.
Claytigo is ultimately about making useful things with intention — objects that can participate in the small rituals, routines, and moments of connection that make everyday life meaningful.
